Steam tender ELFIN

Historical ex Royal Navy Torpedo Recovery Vessel

Elfin is a preserved 108-foot-long, twin-screw, seagoing steamship built in 1933. The ship is powered by two 125 ihp compound steam engines, each driving its own propeller. The oil-fired boiler provides a working pressure of 145 psi. Steam enthusiasts will be thrilled onboard the Elfin, as in addition to the two main engines, it also features a steam-powered steering engine, a steam anchor winch, a steam forced draft fan, a Weir steam air pump, a steam cooling water pump, two Weird steam feed water pumps, two steam-powered dynamos, two steam oil pumps, and a Weir steam general service pump. During events, all of this can be seen in operation, and the crew is happy to provide explanations.

Visitors are welcome to view the ship during onboard activities on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Are you traveling from afar? It’s a good idea to contact us in advance to avoid disappointment.

With a donation of at least €25, you will receive the newsletter of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Steamship. If you make a substantial donation of €1,000 or more, you will receive a hand-painted copy of the original HMS Elfin crest. The Elfin can also be hired for events.
